Adventures in Vernal

Oh man the adventures I’ve had in the last few days. Life in Vernal is like living in another world. There are so many things different out here. One thing I was looking forward to was church because it was testimony meeting. Wow was I disappointed. I feel like this ward needs a lesson on testimony. A testimony is not standing up in church and taking ten minutes to thank about fifty people in the ward by name. It is not a chance to tell a story bragging about how you helped someone this week and how great you are for helping. A testimony is a chance to state what you believe, feel and know. There were a few good ones, but most were not spirit bringing. And I was trying so hard to feel the spirit. It was not one of those meetings where the room is filled with it. It was the weirdest testimony meeting I have ever been to. And it went thirty minutes over.

Don’t get me wrong, I love listening to other people share their feelings. If I didn’t I wouldn’t have been a nurse. But the point of testimony meeting is to bring the spirit and share it with others.

On my way home from church I had another adventure. I was driving down a busier road in Vernal. Looked over at the field I was passing. Man I wish I hadn’t. I saw a horse. But not just an ordinary horse. This horse was backed against a tree on the side of the road. He had hiked his butt up in the split of the tree and was scratching his butt on the tree.  Seriously? Who just sees that driving down the road?

Today I went to Walmart. Now this is always and adventure, but I feel that they could probably fun the website People of Walmart out of this one alone. Oh Man. The things I see. Today these two older ladies walked into the hair care aisle while I was looking at headbands. They were complaining about how fine their hair is now. They then went on to debate different types of curlers. One of them said, “People don’t curl their hair anymore. They just let it go straight and stringy and blech”. Oh my gosh. I started laughing so hard I had to turn away. They lady in the aisle by me with her Utah poof and straight hair looked completely offended.
On my way home from Walmart I was stopped at a stop sign near my house. My grandpa used to drive around in his little golf cart, and he put flags on the back. I looked over and saw the redneck version of that. Hahahaha. A little old man. Sitting on his ride on lawn mower. With a flag sticking out the back. Just riding down the street. Ha. I can’t believe the things I see in Vernal.

This song is so the story of this town. Most people out here don't like it. I think it hits a little too close to home. I love it:)
